01 · From coastal fort to citadel

Construction milestones in the museum's account.

The museum dates the initial fort to 1813 under Gia Long and its relocation and rebuilding to 1823 under Minh Mạng. Its 2026 introduction gives 1834 for the citadel name and describes reinforcement in 1847.

Founding, relocation and rebuilding are different events. A single date cannot establish the age of every surviving structure.
